about me

Derek Landy: "Here’s the thing about writing - you’re either born to do it, or you’re not."

the word OOSUFF makes me laugh. It means fun in Tori-Cara language. Speaking of Tori you should read her book "Game of War" She doesn't spam so I'll do it for her :P

I'm a shameless spammer. I will do anything to get my book to the top if that means I have to shove it in your face. I do not expect a pick but I do expect a read. (I will go first)

Aside from that,

I'm Cara Ruegg, age 19. I am a published poet and a freelance photographer. Alas, I am also a struggling novelist who adores painting her own world and making up her own characters with use of words. Whereas photography is my second love -- Writing is my first. I find it all quite discouraging trying to get a book published. First, to dream of love has been rejected by agents and publishers multiple times. I've gotten close a couple times. One agent told me she believed I had a selling-point but said she was focusing on more adult books at the time and couldn't help me. All writers know that when your book is rejected it does take a toll on you because it has become like your child and you love it, you have poured your whole heart and soul into it and for it to be rejected it hurts but you can't give up! Perserverance is key and we must remember every great artist has been rejected before. You learn from struggle and pain -- it helps build strong character.

I'm a senior in high school. I write for my school newspaper and really hate coming up with things to write about. I'm known, ironically enough, for my book reviews (which I find ironic since i only wrote one, complimenting and at the same time critisizing Twilight for grammatical errors, for the first paper published this year but people still come up and compliment me on it haha!)

Writing is a hard, tedious job that is quite draining but we all do it because WE LOVE TO WRITE because it is what draws our heart -- it consumes us and pushes us onward. Those who are truly talented writers, all enjoy it. It tends to be the ones who are not so talented that do it for fame and fortune blah blah blah -- stuff that only money-blinded people care about. Lucky for me, my family has never had enough to really give me anything unless I needed it. I used to always complain about this but now I'm quite happy with not being spoiled those who are typically take things for advantage. My struggle in life has given me a strong character. I only need the essentials -- food, cheap clothes, and shelter. When I become a successful author, all my money that is leftover will go to the poor and less fortunate.

I've been writing since who knows when. Wrote over a hundred pages of short stories when I was in fourth grade. Finished my first book that branched over the novella-word count when I was in middle school; finished my second book now -- First, to dream of Love. It's a miracle really since I tend to distract myself so easily and never seem to get anything done.

My personality type is INFP "While their list of jobs may echo that of other Idealists, they are more drawn to express their own unique vision of the world than all other types, so their work cannot help but be unique.....They have a gift for interpreting stories, as well as for creating them, and thus often write in lyric, poetic fashion."

I was a member of authonomy long before switching here. Some authonomites actually told me my book would not appeal to young adults but all of you have proved them wrong! I really appreciate those who have read my entire book. I'm really flattered when people beg me to put up more or tell their friends about my book -- it makes me smile! I know it's hard to read so many words on the computer so I'm very happy you liked it enough to read all of it haha. :p

Freya North says: "It took 4 long hard years before I had a contract, hideous waiting time only for rejection to follow rejection, and I had to confront much negativity and really tactless comments from people who did not enjoy my work."

"Writing is a wonderful job to have. There is nothing I love more than writing. And yes, I get up when I want to, and I don’t work in an office building or out in the rain, and I get to create and have fun every single day, but there are downsides. The hours are long, and the work consumes you, and you stop talking to people, and you begin to realize that your house is slowly filling up with cats, and you don’t even LIKE cats... But hey, if you’re a writer, you’ve really got no choice in the matter, now do you?"
- Derek Landy who has just described my life here 'cept i like cats haha :p

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history. - Plato

“I decline to accept the end of man.... I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. The poet’s, the writer’s duty is to write about these things.... The poet’s voice need not merely be the record of man, it can be one of the props, the pillars to help him endure and prevail.” - faulkner

First, to Dream of Love

Book: Adventure, Romance, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror

When an ancient legend told as a fairytale begins to come true what is there left for you to do but read and believe?

The story deals primarily with the themes of forbidden love and the desire for a peaceful future. The Luminarium princess, Eliza, a devout Catholic, visits the dreams of Michael: a dark, satanic prince. Tragedy and fate bring the two of them together, only for malevolent forces to attempt to tear them apart. As their struggle progresses their love is tested. Both face the prospect of being ostracized from their respective families. In order to secure peace the lovers make great sacrifices. As their bond grows the powers who seek to destroy them become more and more determined --the attacks upon them become more brutal and dangerous. Together they must rule, or divided, the darkness will encompass all.

Author's note: I have poured my whole heart and soul into this book. If you are only planning on reading one chapter please skip to chapter 42 -- the dialogue between Michael and his father is to die for. *wink wink* lol. X

and yes, there is a sequel :)

Poem

When do you reckon murder is right? And who's to decide what is and is not a life?

*WARNING* this may be potentially offensive to some. I don't want to hear any disagreements in the comments. If you don't agree well frankly I don't care so it'll be pointless to say anything. That being said, I hope you enjoy this poem.

The Trees have Eyes

by cara_ruegg

Book: Romance, Mystery, Horror

When somebody goes missing people wonder.
When somebody goes dead people flock.
Will this killer be caught
or will Lillian write it off a fairytale?

Young and beautiful women are said to be deadly but what about the man that lusts after them or the woman that envies them? All steps start small as all sins start small....then they turn massive! Can this wretched monster cover up his steps before he is found or will an unlikely girl beat him at his own game?

Introducing Lillian Swan, a young eighteen-year-old girl who has way more problems than this narrator would have you believe. She is a struggling novelist who after rejection following rejection finds herself in peaceful Mablestem. The only problem is, the mask is the only peaceful aspect. Behind the mask lies a dangerous killer who now has set his eyes on pretty Lillian. The question now isn't whether this new book of hers will be a bestseller but if she will live. . .
