Haiti, Mon Amour

by Exiled_Muse

Poem

For the dead in Haiti.

Cry tears of sorrow for the dead, those gone that fateful day on January 12, 2010. Pray, plead to the loa, to the spirits of the vodou and whisper your torment to the guardians of spirits past, to the protectors of the living and beg for mercy.

For those who have yet to hear the song. Go to youtube and search for We Are the World - 25 For Haiti.

Ok, wow. This is an amazing poem. It is powerfull.
'...lift/Fallen spirts with the courage/To overcome..'
That is amazing. The imagery is amazing, especially the last stanza. '...her bright colors. Smiling with Laughter at the sun...' This line is amazing.

This is so amazingly beautiful. It is definately a tribute to Haiti and her people. It was an honor to read such fantastic work. I usually don't put poems on my picks, but this deserves to be. Thanks for writing this! -Diane

This is so beautiful. Its like a cross between a song and a prayer.
It's so very sad and a fitting piece to honour those that perished and comfort those who survived.
There is a lovely element of hope in the end, which is really uplifting.
Gorgeous work.

You wrote this with your heart and that makes me feel joy, where others might only feel sorrow. You, like so many other people in the world, have contributed to the appreciation of and effort in Haiti's recovery, and helping people recognize the anguish that the country-- the people, went through.
On the flipside, the format rocked and the tribal feel of it by using the native religion's figureheads made the tone into the lament and prayer I think you wanted it to be. High quality :)
Signed,
Joe

Aww, this is so sad, and yet so beautifully written. I'm 100% sure that everyone who knew someone who died in Haiti would be sobbing they're eyes out when they read this ;(

I started crying when I read this; it was just so touching. I really like the right alignment of the certain lines. It wasn't typical, and it added a little something to it. [Sorry-I don't really know how to describe what it added; it just did.] I adore the third stanza: "Speak, mon loa, / Tell the tale of the fateful day / The isle of Haiti trembled / Born of the Caribbean seas, / Sheltered by the Atlantic, home to / The brave, the free, the living / -and the dead" . That last line definitely started to make me tear up. It was just such a powerful poem.

As soon as I have room, this is going on my PL. I have goosebumps. And chills. This was starkly beautiful. I have no words. I'll leave a more detailed comment once I can figure out how to articulate what I want to say; describe how severely this struck me. I'm stunned. It was that good.

Wow! This poem brings a very hopeful face to this sad event; you did an excellent job with it. Again, the way you incorporate mythology is amazing and shows a depth of knowledge on the subject. I cannot think of any improvements to suggest, so I suppose all that is left to mention is that it’s going to my pick list. Good job!

You are an amazing writer. You inspire me to keep writing, no matter the subject and try to make a mark on society. Keep doing what you love to do. If the people in Haiti could see this, they would see hope.

This is intense and tragic, but infused with hope and life.
There is a great feeling of deliverance for those who died, prayers for them to reach the realm of spirits.

The poem is sensitive and strong, with elements of Haiti's colourful and spiritual heart intertwined with messages of healing and courage.

Beautifully done!
